Extracting Line of Sights using Trident Compound Rays

Hi All,

I have seen some other threads on using Trident Project (specifically this one on the parameter file, which was a great help!) to extract lines of sight with compound rays, but I am having trouble with it. I specifically want to extract absorption spectra for O VII and O VIII, but every time I try, the script sits as if idle, not outputting anything for hours, or alternatively it will use far too much memory. Has anybody experienced anything like this, and worked out how to fix it? I am unsure if the times I am quoting in the output file are incorrect, or something else?

Thanks all :)

Joe

Trident doesn't have O7 and O8 (i.e. any X-ray) transitions, right? So you've added the relevant data yourself?

An alternative might be to use a tool from the X-ray community (although I cannot name one that would create an absorption spectrum from a hydrodynamical simulation).

Most realistically, you should try your test on the smallest possible simulation (TNG50-4). If it works there, you can start to try on larger simulations. Perhaps it is just an issue of time and/or memory.
